Biography

I am V. Balaji Rao, Scientist–G and Team Leader of the Electrical & Civil Infrastructure Centre at ARCI (International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials), Hyderabad, with over three decades of experience in electrical engineering, infrastructure development, and large-scale R&D facility management.

I have played a foundational role in the establishment and expansion of ARCI’s infrastructure since its inception, leading the design, construction, and commissioning of complete utility systems including HT/LT substations, captive DG power plants, water systems, gas distribution networks, and industrial facilities. My work spans end-to-end execution—from concept and detailed engineering to commissioning, operation, and lifecycle maintenance.

My expertise lies in power system design, power quality management, and ensuring uninterrupted energy supply to critical non-linear R&D loads. I have developed automated DG power management systems with PLC and SCADA integration, implemented harmonic filtering solutions, and enabled reliable operation of high-capacity vacuum furnaces and advanced processing equipment.

I have been actively involved in the integration and commissioning of a wide range of advanced R&D systems, including D-Gun, HVOF, CVD, EBPVD, laser processing systems, and various industrial equipment. I have also contributed to indigenous development of control systems, electrical panels, and automation solutions for critical technologies.

My role involves managing multidisciplinary teams, coordinating civil, electrical, HVAC, and utility services, and ensuring 24/7 reliable operation of ARCI’s facilities with zero downtime. I have extensive experience in techno-commercial evaluation, tendering, and compliance with statutory and safety regulations.

I am committed to mentoring technical staff and students, and I actively contribute to knowledge sharing, system optimization, and sustainable infrastructure development, supporting advanced research and national technology missions.
