About FMCT

The International Advanced Research Centre for Powder Metallurgy and New Materials (ARCI) is a premier autonomous R&D Institution under the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India. The mandate of the Organization is to develop materials and processes of industrial importance, as elucidated in the ARCI website (www.arci.res.in).

Since characterization is an essential part of the study and development of materials, ARCI has a dedicated Centre of Excellence with high-end sophisticated facilities for materials characterization and testing, the core focus of this Centre being microstructure-structure- property correlations. In addition, all other technical Centres in the ARCI system have established characterization facilities that are used mainly by the respective Centres, but available to all users.

The salient features of the facilities are as follows:

  • Each facility is operated by Scientists/Technical Officers/Technical Assistants /Technicians who are trained extensively, often at the site of the manufacturer.
  • Experienced Scientists/Officers help users in the analysis and interpretation of data as may be needed
  • Many of the equipments are maintained by way of Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs)
  • Calibration is carried our regularly, often as part of the AMCs

Note: Since the facilities of ARCI are tuned to applications in materials science, we are not able to take up work on biological samples at the present time.
